A couple of weeks ago, I was called to be the Laurel advisor (teacher for the 16-17 year old girls at church). While I was sad to not be teaching in RS anymore and giving up my Nursery singing time job, I was and am super excited to be working with these awesome girls!
So, it's been a while since I've been in the Young Women's organization, 15 years to be exact, and I'm really anxious (imagine that) plus somewhat intimidated by this responsibility. Seeking some insight and guidance, I asked my good friend Kristen D. in Kentucky, who is an expert YW president, for some advice. She very graciously sent me a thoughtful email and I appreciate/will put to good use everything she had to say!!
Today was my second week teaching and I am amazed by these incredible girls. They have so much adversity in their lives, and yet are all, individually and collectively, an example for others... including me. Their input in the just two lessons I've given, just floors me and reminds me of how valiant they are. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to serve them and will hopefully be a positive influence and example as well.
I wish I would have been more like them at that age.

Welcome to YW! I feel the same way in the Miamaids. These girls are way beyond what I was at age 14 & 15. I love being with them, and often remind them I am learning as much if not more than they are :)
I probably forgot to tell you how much I loved your last (and all of the ones before it for that matter) lesson. You are a fantastic teacher and I know those ladies will be blessed by having you in their lives.
I'm in with the MMs right now and feel the same way about them as you do about your girls. You'll be a fabulous teacher to them. (I can tell these things!) ;o)
Thanks for the compliment, but I am no where near expert and I never will be. You will do great and have fun and it will make you feel like you are 15 again!
