City by the Lake

The weather in Chicago was perfect and the city just glittered against the sun and beautiful blue sky! We enjoyed a boat tour that took us out to Lake Michigan and walked around for a couple of hours, just exploring a bit. If it wasn't for the couple of minutes we lost Spencer, it would have been a perfect day!

We of course had to do the annoying touristy stuff like cruise Michigan Ave and shop a bit... all my idea. There weren't really any shops that you couldn't find in a nice suburban shopping mall, but everything was so much more exciting. Being on the 3rd floor of Crate and Barrel was kind of scary because of the open escalators and the sunglasses at Banana Republic were extra stylish!

The famous Billy Goat Tavern had delicious cheezborgers and cokes... no Pepsi. A customer behind us made the mistake of asking for chips, and was told, "Get them yourself, I'm not your mother!"

I loved learning about the famous buildings and skyscrapers, but was especially excited about the 80's movie references, like Adventures in Babysitting, Ferris Bueller's, The Untouchables, etc. I have to admit though, every time we go to Chicago I think of the movie Candyman and get a little creeped out.... Cabrini-Green, yuck.

I've only been to Chicago once but I loved it. Sounds like (aside from losing Spencer) it was a fantastic trip!

"My professional life has been centered on the home, the well being of the family and everything that these subjects encompass. When I began working in this area more than 25 years ago, the subject of homemaking as it relates to families was largely overlooked, though the interest was clearly broad and the desire for information strong. My colleagues and I soon discovered we were satisfying a deeply felt unmet need."
