The Year of the Ox

Happy Chinese New Year guys! I am a 1975 'year of the rabbit' who feels very optomistic about this new year.

So, here's a fun little craft I did after church today for the awesome ladies Jessica and I visit teach. I mixed a few ideas I found on Martha and Lorie's blog. Lorie, btw, has the most informative fun blog, with easy craft and recipe ideas.... I highly recommend it. http://bedifferentactnormal.blogspot.com/

Using the Chinese takeout template found on Lorie's blog, I made three little containers with red ribbon handles and a Chinese zodiac symbol on the front that was downloaded from the Internet. Easy.

Next, using the "felt fortune cookie" pattern found on Martha's blog, I made fabric fortune cookies. Unfortunately, I didn't have felt, so I used some cute Chinese patterned fabric, and double sided fusible webbing. It worked just fine. Each fabric fortune cookie was stuffed with a quote from the January VT message and a yummy chocolate Ferraro Rocher and voila! Perfect for tomorrow.

Isn't Scott a fabulous hand model?

Can you be MY visiting teacher? WOW! What an effort. I am proud of you.

If you were in our ward, you would have to make at least 6 of these for everyone on your list. :)

You are so crafty - and motivated. I wish you lived here so then I could come over and do those things with you. Instead, I just stop at the store and buy things on my way to visiting teaching.

Sometimes you leave me speechless. Seriously. You are amazing. I know that you think this was relatively simple, but I wouldn't know where to start even with your great and no fail directions. The VT quote inside the felt cookie, such a great idea. I hope your ladies love it!

Hey, and did you notice that I was taking Sam to Tae Kwon Do - that's Korean. It's the one activity we do in homage to you - it has NOTHING to do with the fact that it's right in our neighbourhood.

"My professional life has been centered on the home, the well being of the family and everything that these subjects encompass. When I began working in this area more than 25 years ago, the subject of homemaking as it relates to families was largely overlooked, though the interest was clearly broad and the desire for information strong. My colleagues and I soon discovered we were satisfying a deeply felt unmet need."
